The Brazilian side in brief

The Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls is the Parque Nacional do Iguaçu, reached from Foz do Iguaçu. Its main walk is the Trilha das Cataratas, a panorama trail of about 1 km (0.6 mi) with several lookouts, elevators and a river walkway. Internal transport carries you from the visitor center to the start of the trail, about 7.5 miles (12 km).

The park is open every day of the year. Entry runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on weekdays and from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. You may stay until 5:30 pm, so the entry time is not the latest time you can be inside. This is an independent guide, not the park's own website.

What the ticket includes

The ticket covers the internal transport between the visitor center and the panorama trail, the walk itself, the elevators, the walkway and the main lookouts. Private cars are not allowed into the park, and tourist vehicles are admitted only with accreditation. Parking at the entrance costs 65 BRL a day for cars and motorcycles, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Luggage storage is a separate service at 45 BRL.

Bus line 120 Parque Nacional runs between the Foz do Iguaçu bus terminal (TTU), the park and the airport. The Parque das Aves bird park lies next to the park entrance and is a separate attraction with its own ticket. The park entrance is on BR 469 at km 18.

Closures in autumn 2026

The operator closes parts of the park when the river runs high. Status as reported on the dates given.

September

The river walkway closed on September 11, 2026 at a flow of 8.4 million liters per second. The operator announced it would reopen on September 15 after an inspection.

October

The river walkway has been closed since October 11, 2026, and the railings were removed on October 13. The same notice lists the lower Naipi lookout, São João, Espaço Usina, Poço Preto and Canafístula as closed, and Bananeiras as closed for construction work. The Trilha das Cataratas was reported open.

Reopening

The operator says a reopening needs a technical inspection and an engineer's approval. Its historical average flow is 1.5 million liters per second, against 8.4 million on September 11. Check the park's latest notice before you go.

Elevators are part of the regular ticket, but the closed lower Naipi lookout does not tell you whether every elevator is running. Ask at the visitor center on the day.

Rules, wildlife and entry requirements

The basics before you cross the border.

In the park

Stay on the marked paths, do not take shortcuts and leave natural materials where they are. Pets are not allowed. Watch your food, because coatis grab it. Observe animals from a distance and never feed them.

Visas

US citizens have needed a visa for Brazil again since April 10, 2025, and there is no exception for a short visit to the falls. German travelers need a passport, not an ID card, with at least 6 months of validity, and can stay up to 90 days in 6 months without a visa. Check the rules for your own passport.

Crossing from Argentina

The crossing from Puerto Iguazú to Foz do Iguaçu is the Tancredo Neves International Bridge. The getting there guide covers the route in more detail.

For the park on the other bank, see the Argentine side. The Foz do Iguaçu page covers the town, and the boat tour guide explains the Macuco Safari ride, which costs 384 BRL with the boat and is sold separately from the park ticket.
